Sacred Heart Schools Network

“Your example, even more than your words, will be an eloquent lesson to the world”
Saint Madeleine Sophie Barat

Sacred Heart Education seeks to educate the whole person as a responsible member of society, confident of personal worth, actively living out Christ’s call to know and share His Love.

Sacred Heart Schools aim to provide the environment for development in every sphere, and are committed to understanding the values and aspirations of our young students. Our schools encourage pupils to make decisions in the light of Gospel values.
Our schools are Catholic institutions within the ecumenical tradition of the Church. They promote, among the pupils, an awareness of the gifts of the spirit in other traditions as well as their own.
In 1800, the Society of the Sacred Heart was founded by a French woman, St. Madeleine Sophie Barat. The first school of the Society was opened in Amiens a year later.
St Madeleine Sophie saw education as a response to the needs of society. She was convinced that education flourishes in an atmosphere of mutual trust and that the best education takes place through relationships. We celebrate her feast day on the 25th of May each year.
In these pages we share the educational mission of our Network of Sacred Heart Schools, where learning is inspired by the philosophy of Sacred Heart Education.

Step 1

Our Network

The primary function of the Network is to provide services and support to Sacred Heart Schools as they work to implement the core values of Sacred Heart Education.

Step 2

Our Board

In its work to promote and support the vision and values of Sacred Heart Education, the Network Board guides and supports our stakeholders to implement the five goals: Faith, Character, Intellect, Community and Social Awareness. The Board members represent the constituent schools of the Network.
This is achieved through the work of the Network Coordinator, the Goals Coordinators, Principals, Deputies, Boards of Management/Governors, Staffs, Pupils/Students and Parents. Each of these stakeholders work together to achieve the aim of the promotion of Sacred Heart Education by implementing the five goals: Faith, Character, Intellect, Community and Social Awareness.

Step 3

Our Co-ordinator

The Network Co-ordinator supports the delivery of the Network’s mission to promote the ethos and values of Sacred Heart Education in the schools of the Network. This is achieved by promoting inter-school cooperation in implementing the Five Goals through regular meetings of Heads, Deputies and Goals Coordinators, induction of new staff and ongoing formation of staff in the spirit of Sacred Heart education. The Co-ordinator maintains connections and relationships with members of the international RSCJ family and engages with the apostolic priorities of the Society.

Meet our Co-ordinator

Noreen Heenan

With a strong track record of teaching and leadership in a Sacred Heart school, Noreen has led the Sacred Heart Network in implementing the Philosophy of Sacred Heart Education since 2021. Previous experience as a member of the Network Board, allied to her belief in the value of our message enshrined in the Sacred Heart Goals, means that Noreen is a guiding and inspiring caretaker of our mission.

She is responsible for co-ordinating ethos development across the schools of the Ireland, Scotland, Malta Network. Further links with the England and Wales Network and with the European schools provide opportunities to deepen the experience of Sacred Heart educators. Noreen also acts as Secretary to the Coreteam of the European Network of Schools.

Through collaboration with members of the Society of the Sacred Heart, workshops and seminars with staff groups, and conferences of Headteachers, Goals Co-ordinators and Chaplains, Noreen finds herself building connections and sustaining a positive and proactive approach to our ethos.

Fostering a shared understanding of the Sacred Heart ethos message provides opportunities for all Sacred Heart students to develop and grow in confidence, faith and joy.

Noreen welcomes every opportunity to hear from all who are interested in our Sacred Heart story.
