Justice, Peace, and the Integrity of Creation (JPIC)

“We derive courage and confidence from our educational mission and Sacred Heart spirituality in a world that calls for just use of power, structural and systemic transformation, an ethic of caring, and openness to welcoming people on the move.”

‘Being Artisans of Hope in Our Blessed and Broken World,’ Society of the Sacred Heart, 2019

Introduction

The Society of the Sacred Heart, RSCJ International, decided that a key focus of their mission would be to serve Justice, Peace, and Integrity of Creation (JPIC). This mission priority would guide their work toward a more just and sustainable world.

What is JPIC?

JPIC stands for Justice, Peace, and Integrity of Creation, reflecting the Society’s commitment to promoting human dignity, social transformation, and environmental sustainability. Rooted in their Sacred Heart spirituality, the Society actively works towards caring for our common home.
Our Sacred Heart schools embrace this mission in a number of ways. Many of the social justice and sustainability practices already in place are now seamlessly linked to JPIC. Schools are increasingly centres of excellence in promoting sustainability, justice, inclusion and responsibility.
The Goals of Sacred Heart Education provide a framework to animate JPIC into actions that make the world a better place. Whether in learning about human rights or practising decision making, our students are becoming agents of change. A social awareness that impels to action is encouraged from early years. Christian values, global solidarity and respect for diversity are hallmarks of Sacred Heart schools. Indeed, they typify the vision of St Madeleine Sophie:
“Courage and confidence must be our battle-cry. We cannot repeat these words too often”.
St Madeleine Sophie Barat
